The Hispanic Women's League Statement on COVID‑19
Dear Members, Partners, and Friends,
Like you, we have been watching with concern as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread throughout the world and our local community. These are challenging times for us all, and we hope you’re in good spirits and health!
As we adapt to these unprecedented circumstances, we’ll continue to serve our members and our community as best we can. However, in order to ensure the safety of our community and ourselves, we’ve made necessary modifications that we’d like to share with you.
The Hispanic Women’s League (HWL) has been continually meeting remotely via phone and video conferencing to connect and continue with committee functions. As we continue to monitor the spread of the virus, we feel the best course of action is to take a pause on some of the events in 2020 and shift our efforts to offer resources and tools to our members virtually until the rest of the year. Please stay tuned for more information on upcoming webinars and various ways HWL plans to give back to the community and how you can get involved.
The Hispanic Women’s League (HWL) board of directors has made the following decision:
- HWL Membership has been extended to December 31, 2021. All paid members or future members will not have to renew their membership until January of 2021.
- HWL will not have elections this year. All board members and executive directors will continue to hold their current position until 2021 as long as they are willing and able.
- Given the economic situation and the uncertainty the future holds we will be strategically reconsidering the number of available scholarships this year. Stay tuned!
- The Mother’s Day Spa event at Rejuvinex scheduled for Saturday, May 9th has been cancelled.
- The Healthy Life Style Summit, offered to 10 young ladies in April, has been postponed to either later this year via video conferencing or to early 2021.
- The Miss Buffalo boat ride, originally scheduled for Sunday, June 28th has been cancelled. The 2021 new date will be announced as soon as it is determined.
- Our 2020 Annual Scholarship Gala, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 17th has been cancelled. We have tentatively locked down a new date of October 2nd, 2021 and it’s subject to change.
As you can imagine, this was a very difficult decision for us but we feel the need to shift our model and timeline to ensure the safety and well-being of members, board members, committee members, our partners, and our precious community.
In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for being part of our community. Without you, none of this is possible.
Stay safe and well,
Natalia Land, President
Board of Directors HWL
